Point & Shoot: Jack O'lantern

We had a lot of fun on Sunday celebrating Halloween. Alex, Phoenix and Skye dressed up as little vampires, ate lollies, put a lot of face paint on and we carved a pumpkin. When the children were in bed, Reuben (husband) and I watched a vampire movie called 30 days of night.

We didn’t trick or treat, I hate the idea of my children knocking on doors and eating candy from strangers. But we did have a bowl of lollies in case we had some trick or treater’s. In the end only one group of four came to the door, three black kitty cats and one red devil. Halloween seriously isn’t a big deal in our area.

When I woke up this morning Skye told me how much she loved Halloween. I was pretty glad I made the effort this year to do some fun things, we are creating childhood memories!

Join in on the fun over at fat mum slim’s today!

LOVE your jack-o'-lantern! And all the kids fantastic outfits.

My kids really enjoyed dressing up too, our neighbourhood got quite into it this year -- there were all sorts of wee trick-or-treaters knocking on doors and running around the hood. Fun :)

I celebrated Halloween when I lived in Japan and it was heaps of fun(just dressing up and going to the local bar one year, and the next year I went to a Latino club that was all decked out Halloween style), but don't really do it here. Once Dardo's older I am not against having a Halloween party, but I wouldn't allow him to trick or treat neighbour's homes unless there was some previous arrangement that it was acceptable - if anyone had knocked last night I wouldn't have had anything to offer.

A friend was telling me that last year she received an anonymous letter in her mailbox that was quite abrupt/curt and saying "neighbourhood children will be trick or treating this year, please comply with the following: have your pets indoors, have hoses clear of footpaths, do not leave out anything that children may trip over, please leave outdoor lights on" etc. How obnoxious!

The person that sent these around didn't even leave contact details - the least you could do would be to politely suggest people leave a balloon or something on their front doors if they're willing to be involved, you don't just tell your neighbours they MUST do these things!!

Anyway! Glad your kids had fun, your comment about making happy memories really resonated - why not celebrate and take any opportunity to create childhood memories of good times?

I'm not Halloween's biggest fan. If I didn't have children, I'd simply stack a few pumpkins and be done with it.

But The Offspring think it's the best. So there you go.

Guess what! Just found out my mother-in-law is moving to Australia. Not sure what part...

Bye-bye babysitter. :(

Thanks for your comment on my blog. Means a lot!

Very cute Halloween photos! I remember in primary school one kid in my class (he was a bit odd) went trick or treating, sans costume, and his neighbour said "I don't have any lollies but I do have a steak, let me cook it for you" so he stayed and had a steak! Hahah, weird.

Your blog was a lovely find!

Hey I carved a jack-o-lantern too - my very first one! I'm a bit like you...I don't mind the halloween thing but I don't let my kids trick-or-treat either. Looks like you had a great day! xxx
