New Project

Finally I can say I am to feel better today. My husband took one look at me yesterday afternoon and sent me straight to bed. It took 11 hours of Smallville, lots of rest and starting a crochet blanket for me to start feeling alive again. This virus that took over our home and made everyone sick is so horrible. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. And it’s only the beginning of the flu season so I must do some research on how to strengthen my immune system, before the next bug hits.

I used to crochet granny squares all the time was I was a child. I remember my nana and my mum teaching me how to crochet squares with their left over wool from knitting jumpers and other projects. I used to make clothes for my dolls and little blankets. It has been years since I have picked up a crochet hook. But while I was lying in bed yesterday bored I started to make Skye a crochet blanket in pretty girly colours.

Still sick

I wish this post was a happy one and that I could tell you how wonderful my day has been. But this virus has taken hold of my body and I feel horrible. My nose is running, my throat is swollen, lungs feel so heavy it’s hard to breath and my body aches from head to toe.

I am going to tuck myself into bed and have an early night. Hope tomorrow brings so relief, I don’t have time to be sick I have too much to do!

This week I am grateful for...

1) The yellow weeds {above image} - Dandelion, they are so pretty and it I feel a little sad when my husband mows the grass and they disappear. Our front yard is covered in them at the moment and it makes me smile everyday.

2) My new 50mm 1.4 lens! Oh my goodness I don’t know why it took me so long to move away from my kit lens. I just love the soft dreamy focus at 1.4 and the sharpness at 2.8.

3) Tissues – with all 5 of us sick with a cold this week, I don’t know how we would live without the fabulous invention “the box of tissues”!

See more grateful post over at and then there were four today!

I keep Skye home from school today she has a sore throat and a running nose. I don’t think I will get much work done today but I’m up Fridays hair clip orders at the moment so I don’t think my customers will mind too much.

I have hundreds of new design ideas swimming in my head; they actually keep me awake last night. I might try making some of them while Skye is curled up next to me on the couch.

It’s been a little while since I have entered this beautiful blogging world. I have been reading a lot of books in my spare time and I find it hard to put them down.

Autumn is starting to show in our garden. Our sliver birch tree has golden leaves, but the weather is still quite warm. The last few nights it’s been hard to sleep. I can’t decide if I want a sheet or a doona, so I toss and turn all night.

Skye is so tired and grumpy at the moment. As much as she loves school, she is so worn out at the end of the day. When she gets home from school she throws the biggest tantrums and whinges about everything. She is driving everyone in the house crazy especially her brother and sister. School holidays aren’t too far away now and she really needs them.

playing with actions

edited using Paint the Moon Photography actions - Lemon and Honey

Here is the original SOOC image

I have a soft spot for photography actions. I have downloaded a few free ones over the last 12 months to try but I have been a such a wimp and having used them until now.

This is my first attempt editing one of the pictures I took of my daughter Alex with an action. What do you think?

missing her

Missing her,

I am missing her dreadfully, since she started school this year,

I miss her laughing; miss her demanding I do things for her all day long,

I miss the noise, and her smiley face and her even her sad face,

I miss our little conversations, and miss hearing “why mummy”

I miss the Dora Explorer theme song, I miss having another soul in the house

Now I throw myself into work, there is no one here to stop me or make me take a break,

I wonder if she misses me during the day too!

New Lens

Phoenix James

My new 50mm 1.4 lens arrived to my front door around 5pm this afternoon. I didn't get much time to play with it just 20 minutes, before I had to started making dinner, the tribe was getting restless!  I snap this picture of my 7 year old son Phoenix. I am so happy with my new lens and I can’t wait to give it a work out at Emily’s first birthday on Saturday ♥
